Over the last few years many people have asked for product recommendations when they see some of the things that we use with our dogs and we are finally making a list! This list contains our favorite, and not so favorite items. Each item listed below is a product that we have actually used with our dogs and I will give the reasons why we either love it, hate it, or are indifferent to it. - Water Buffalo HornsWhen it is time to lay down and chew on toys, these water buffalo horns are one of the boys favorite options. I like to give the dogs natural treats and bones whenever possible and those always seem to be what they want the most too. The idea of trying water buffalo horns came to me from a dog that I had over for a Rover visit. When she arrived, her owner had a few toys that he brought with to make her feel more comfortable staying with us. One of those was a water buffalo horn. Clyde being the…
- Dog CrateGiving dogs a safe space as a puppy is important. All of the dogs that I have owned in my 10+ years of owning dogs, have been crate trained. I have had two German Shepherd’s, two St. Bernard’s and a St. Bernard, Great Dane mix, that have all been crate trained and very comfortable with it. We had large dog crates, or as some call them, kennels, for our German Shepherd’s, but when we decided to get St. Bernard’s we figured we were going to need an even bigger crate for them. We found this ginormous dog crate on amazon…
- Pet ScaleWhen we decided we were getting a St. Bernard, we thought it would be a really cool idea to weigh him each week and watch him grow. This was really easy to do when we were able to pick him up and hold him. We would just simply hold him on our personal scale and then deduct our weight from the total. But after only a few weeks we knew that it was not going to be long and the use of our personal scale while holding him was going to be a thing of the past. We found a…
- Grip TapeAfter the original grip tape on our beloved ramp finally wore out, we did not want to have to purchase a whole new ramp to replace it and started searching for a new non slip surface to cover it with. This tape was the solution! When we ordered this on amazon we were not sure if it would work like we needed it to. The surface of the ramp that we were covering had a smooth plastic finish. I honestly did not think that this tape would stick to that plastic material very well. However, after months of use and…
- Prong CollarIf you read my review of the paw five harness, you know how we ended up with these prong dog collars. I chose these collars for my boys because I did not want use an e-collar that would require charging and battery to work. Another training collar that I skipped over was the standard choke chain. The choke chains in my opinion do not work well and can injure the dog if not properly used. Prong collars can also cause injury to the dog if not properly used but I find the odds of injury less with the prong collar….
- Vehicle RampGetting big dogs in and out of the car without injuring yourself or the dog can be quite a challenge. This ramp has been amazing at solving that problem, so amazing that we actually ended up buying two! When looking for a ramp to fit our needs we knew that it was going to have to be able to hold quite a bit a weight. We also needed something that was long enough to reach into a pick up truck. Then we found this ramp on amazon. There are a lot of great features that we love about this ramp!…
- Paw Five Name Patches for harnessAfter finding the Paw Five harness, I knew that I wanted the customized name patches for it with my dogs name on them. After all, the main reason I chose this harness was for the name on the side. I did not realize that the name patches were sold separately from the harness until I went to order it. It took a bit of searching on amazon but I was able to find the right patches for this harness. When the customized patches arrived they looked great and fit perfectly onto the Velcro spots that were made for them. One…
- Paw Five Custom HarnessWhen I started looking for harnesses for Walter I came across the Paw Five brand harness. The first thing that caught my eye was the ability to customize it with his name on the side. I mean, how cool is that! This harness came in a variety of color options, and with all of those options, I went with red for all three of my boys. Along with the customizable patches the company also offered some already premade, commonly used side patches, such as “In Training” and “Do Not Pet”. The name patches and other patches are sold separately from…
